Kakinada: The incidence of dengue is on the rise in East Godavari since last eight months. According to sources, both Kakinada urban and rural leads the lists with 65 cases in urban and 85 in rural making the total to 150.

The Peddapuram division stands in second place with 9 in urban and 49 in rural. Among the other places Rajamahendravaram rural with 2 cases and Ramachandrapuram urban with one case and 33 in rural.

In Amalapuram mandal rural area registered 10 cases and urban with 1. Rampachodavaram registered 2 cases and Yetapaka with one making the total to 258 in the district.

The mosquito breeding problem in these areas attributed to lack of proper preventive measures by district medical authorities besides lack of awareness on part of public on dengue.

The other reasons, lack of proper sanitation and non-removal of garbage for days together in the municipalities particularly in Kakinada smart city and Peddapuram municipality are said to be reasons for the fast spreading of disease in urban and adjacent areas.

East Godavari District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr TSR Murthy said that the department has initiated measures towards control of the disease and to prevent its tentacles. Besides these all the 132 PHCs and CHCs have been geared up to meet any kind of situation.

The DMHO advised the public to follow certain measures like use of mosquito nets and to wear dress covering the entire body to prevent mosquito bites.

In addition to this, the medical officer also advised people to prevent  water logs, cuss pools near residential areas as these turnout as mosquito breeding grounds.

In case of fever, headache and body pains, consult a doctor and get blood tests done for dengue as per the doctor’s advice, Dr TSR Murthy added.
