Eye donation helps two get vision says Vijayawada Academy of Ophthalmology President Dr Y Sujatha

Vijayawada: Eye donation gives a new lease of life to the blind, said Vijayawada Academy of Ophthalmology (VAO) president Dr Y Sujatha.

She participated in a rally organised by VAO to create awareness on eye donation as a part of Ophthalmology Fortnight celebrations here on Sunday. 

The rally was flagged off by senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao from Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium. The rally was reached Benz Circle.

Speaking on the occasion, Sujatha, said that everyone should register their name for eye donation and termed eye donation was holy thing. 

She said that if a person registers for eye donation, the doctors would collect the eyes within 6 hours from the time of death. The eye donation would give vision for two more blind people, she added.  

Ophthalmologist Sambasiva Rao said everyone has a chance to give eyesight for two more by donating eyes and stressed on the need of eye donation as more people were born blind these days.

VAO secretary K Madhavi and other doctors participated in the rally.
