Rajamahendravaram: Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary has said that some employees of Water Resources Department (WRD) who encroached the department's land are making an uproar over the demolition of a century-old building for the construction of sewage treatment plant (STP).

Speaking to reporters at Press Club here on Monday, he said the STP was aimed to treat drain water in the city and to release the same into the downstream of Cotton barrage after its treatment. It was not good on the part of political leaders to make it an issue to get political mileage. He said that he cannot argue with YSRCP leader Jakkampudi Vijaaya Lakshmi.

The leaders who were opposing the construction of STP were having any knowledge on drain water or supply of drinking water in the city, he questioned. The Congress leaders who enjoyed power for 10 years diluted the STP located in Ava area aimed to treat the drain water. It was revived after TDP came to power in 2014, he said.

“How the officials of WRD say that century-old records missed in demolition of the century- old building, who earlier said the records washed away in 1986 floods,” he questioned. In the demolished building there were some wooden tables, chairs and two steel almirahs only. The employees were making noise for taking 3.59 acres of land for STP in 24 acres of society land and how the employees encroached 24 acres of government land, he questioned.

He sought to know from the WRD officials that who allotted the land to them. He underlined the need to inquire into this by a High Court sitting judge to bring the facts about 24 acres of government land.
