Head constable suspended for lashing woman with whip

Guntur: A head constable attached to Nagapalem model police station in Guntur city was suspended for allegedly lashing a woman with a whip in an inebriated condition on Sunday night. This incident came to light on Monday. After conducting preliminary enquiry, the top police officials immediately suspended the head constable from duties. 

According to the police, acting on a complaint, the police raided a house in Kondaenkatappaiah Colony in Guntur city and took some women who allegedly involved in sex racket to the Nagarampalem police station. Later, head constable Venkateswara Rao allegedly lashed a sex worker with a whip in an inebriated condition, which went viral in the social media.

Immediately, the top police officials ordered for probe into the incident. Guntur West DSP P Sowmya Latha admitted that head constable Venkateswara Rao beat a sex worker with a whip in inebriated condition. Sowmya said she was conducting enquiry on the issue and submit a report to higher officials for further action. 

Nagarampalem Circle Inspector Y Sridhar Reddy said head constable Venkateswara Rao in an inebriated condition thrashed one of the sex workers with a whip. The department will act against the head constable, he added. Urban district additional SP YT Naidu said the head constable might have thrashed the woman when she abused him. However, he said action would be taken based on the enquiry report.
