CPI, CPM want resolution in Assembly on backwardness

Ongole: The leaders and workers of Prakasam district units of the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest and hunger strike at the district Collectorate here on Tuesday.

They demanded that the MLAs from the district bring pressure on the government to pass resolutions in Assembly to recognise the Prakasam district as a backward district and award a special package for its development.

The CPI district secretary, ML Narayana and CPI (M) secretary for the east area Punati Anjaneyulu alleged that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his government were showing partiality on the district.

“That is why the government is not sending proposal to the Central government to construct shipbuilding center and port at Ramayapatnam and complete Veligonda project by funding it sufficiently,” they said.

They demanded that the 10 TDP MLAs and 2 YSRCP MLAs in the district mount pressure on the chief minister and state government to pass a resolution on backwardness of the district and send it to the Central government so that it becomes the 8th district in the state and receives development fund.

They also demanded that the government announce Rs 10,000 crore package for the development of the district and complete the pending irrigation projects including Veligonda.

They announced that their parties’ bus yatra by the New Political Alternative goes through the district on September 8 and 9.

A Maha Garjana meeting would be held in Vijayawada on September 15.

They sought support from the public for the meeting to question the state and Central governments to implement their promises.
