Encroachers eating into Panchayat land in Akiveedu
Akiveedu: The Panchayat which is supposed to save government lands from encroachers is not in a position to save its own premises from the land grabbers in Akiveedu.
The Panchayat has 30 cents of land out of which five cents was used for construction of the office.
The rear side of the Panchayat has been encroached by private persons making mockery of the administration.
Earlier, the 25 cents of vacant land behind the Panchayat office was used for parking of bullock-carts which collect garbage. The land was also used for rearing bullocks.
When the bullock-carts were replaced with tractors for garbage collection, people residing in the neighbourhood razed the compound wall of the Panchayat and constructed toilets.
They also penetrated into Panchayat land and build houses. A private school also grabbed the land by raising a concrete structure.
Much to the dismay of the people, the officials did not act against the land grabbers.
Though there was a chance to raze the illegal structures the Council was silent all these years.
Now, with special officers ruling the Panchayat, people expect them to take stern action against the land grabbers and save the land belonging to the Panchayat.
