Screening test held for cornea grafting

Vijayawada: Swetcha Gora Eye Bank located at Vasavya Nursing Home conducted a screening camp on Thursday for the visually challenged to select the eligible persons for cornea grafting. Dr MN Raju of Sandhya Hitech Vision Centre and Dr K Vijaysekhar tested 40 visually challenged in the screening camp.

Five persons, who are blind due to cornea problem, were identified and further tests would be conducted on them. Cornea grafting would be conducted on them after thoroughly testing the possibility of restoring sight, said Dr G Samaram.

Eye Bank manager D Ravi also participated. Dr Samaram informed the media that sports and games would be conducted for the students of Vijaya Mary Blind School at Gunadala on Friday.

The winners of various competitions conducted in connection with the eye donation fortnight celebrations would be presented with the awards on September 8, Dr Samaram said.
