Swachh Bharat Mission official inspects bio-mining plant

Vijayawada: Swachh Bharat Mission Joint Secretary VK Jindal from New Delhi, along with Municipal Commissioner J Nivas, inspected the bio-mining plant located in the Excel Plant at Ajit Singh Nagar in the city, vermicompost plants and modern toilets being maintained by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.  

He expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the bio-mining plant where thousands of tonnes of garbage segregated with advanced machinery. J Nivas explained the measures taken by the VMC for segregation of dry and wet garbage and production of organic manure at the compost plants set up at different locations in the city.  

Jindal also inspected the toilets arranged at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium and near Rajiv Park, vermi-compost plants installed near Bhavanipuram Rytu Bazaar, Urmila Subbarao Nagar, Kabela Junction and other areas in the city. He also inspected canal beautification works and expressed satisfaction over the hygienic conditions in the city. 

The Commissioner also explained the maintenance of street-lighting, drinking water testing system at the overhead tanks and monitoring the dumper bins with the help of Command Control Room set up at the VMC office. Chief medical officer Dr K Arjuna Rao, executive engineer ASN Prasad, AMHO Iqbal Hussain and others participated.

Earlier, Jindal addressed a workshop organised for the municipal commissioners and the officials on Swachh Bharat Mission at A Convention Hall. He explained the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission and awards presented to the urban local bodies basing on the solid waste management and maintenance of hygiene.
