Tsunami mock drill held at Kothapatnam Pallepalem

Ongole: The Prakasam district administration organised a mock drill at Kothapatnam Pallepalem to create awareness in the public on how to respond in case of tsunami or cyclone alerts are issued in the coastal area. 

The Ongole RDO, Penchala Kishore administered the drill with the help of Indian Red Cross, NRDF, APSDRF, RWS, AP Police, AP Fire Service and other departments on Wednesday.

The Kothapatnam Pallepalem hosts about 4,000 public from 1,450 fishermen families. 

The officials said that about 250 to 300 people from the village venture into the sea for fishing on a daily basis. 

The villagers asked the officials to provide life jackets and other things for the safety and better fishing and thanked them for creating awareness on disasters.

Kishore explained the public that they should reach the shelters when the government administration releases warning from time to time. 

He said that it was the responsibility of their own to be alert and cooperate with the rescue agencies to reduce the loss of lives during the disasters.

The AD of fisheries, Balaram, JD of agriculture Srirama Murthy, JD of animal husbandry Ravindranath Tagore, Kothapatnam Tahsildar Ramanarao and other officials participated in the programme.
