YSR’s uncle & former MLA passes away

Kadapa: Noted ophthalmologist and former MLA of Pulivendula Assembly constituency Dr Y S Purushotham Reddy (88) passed away due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Pulivendula town on Wednesday. He is survived with four sons. 

Purushotham Reddy, who was brother of late Raja Reddy (father of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy) was born at Balapanur village in Pulivendula mandal on December 19, 1929. After completing MS in Ophthalmology from Andhra Medical College, he started his career as an ophthalmologist at Campbell Hospital in Jammalamadugu. 

Later, he joined as medical superintendent at YS Raja Reddy Hospital and worked in the same capacity till his death. He was elected as MLA from Pulivendula segment in 1991 and was instrumental in construction of Chitravathi Balancing Reservoir (CBR) to provide drinking water to 177 villages.

YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s wife YS Vijayamma, former MLC YS Vivekananda Reddy and several other politicians offered tributes to Purushotham Reddy at his residence. Meanwhile, YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy likely to attend his last rights on Thursday.
