Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar warned officials of suspension, if they failed to protect government assets, especially lands. He received complaints from people during weekly Meekosam programme conducted here on Monday.

Responding to a complainant from Tadepalligudem, he wondered how the officials continue in jobs if they cannot protect government properties. The complainant informed the Collector that no officials dared to act against encroachers of Bommidi Channel and empty land near checkpost. The encroachers filled up the channel from Mutyalambapuram to Uppakapadu before occupying it.

In the same way, they constructed a shed in government land. Because of this encroachment, traffic was affected and people using the road has been facing difficulties. When he brought the issue to the notice of the authorities concerned for nine months, there was no reaction from the government officials, he alleged.

The Collector turned furious and warned the officials of suspension, in case they remain inactive. Bhaskar said that he had been alerting the officials over the complaints on encroachment of drains, RMP roads, Panchayat lands and canal bunds from time to time to remove the encroachments and save the lands.

Henceforth, negligence of some officials in such cases would be treated as serious and action would be initiated, including suspension from services. He asked the officials to act promptly when they receive complaints from the people with regard to encroachments, he added.
