Speaking on the occasion, Hiremani directed the officials to take measures for scavengers’ development by 2022.

The scavengers should be given identity and respect apart from promotion, wherever necessary.

A third party report on welfare of scavengers would be submitted to the Central government to take welfare measures.

He asked the officials to know the reasons for scavengers not availing different welfare schemes intended for BPL families.

He ordered the officials to persuade scavengers apply for other welfare schemes also to get benefitted from the governments. He directed the officials to ensure minimum wages for scavengers working in both government and private sectors.

He hailed scavengers for maintaining hygienic conditions in the district headquarters hospital which stood in first place in sanitation in the state.

He sought cooperation of the officials to dispel the feeling that bonded labour was still prevalent in the form of scavengers.
