Public meeting to demand major port at Ramayapatnam

Ongole: The Prakasam District Development Forum and Andhra Pradesh Vidyarthi JAC are conducting a public meeting at ABM College here on September 19, demanding that the state government opt for the major port and ship building centre at Ramayapatnam. 

At a press meet held here on Monday, the president of the forum Chunduru Rangarao and APVJAC president Rayapati Jagadeesh said that the Union government had announced a major port to the state as part of the promises in the reorganisation act.

As the Dugarajapatnam was announced to be not feasible by the government agencies themselves, the state government should ask for the major port at Ramayapatnam and it should be constructed by the Union government, they explained.

But the chief minister was trying to lay foundation for a minor port as state port, they said. After making a numerous visits to Union government Ministers and their offices and explaining them, the forum and its members were successful in explaining the importance of major port at Ramayapatnam, they said. 

But the state government had not been understanding the same and its effect on the district. To explain its significance and demand the state to let it recommended the Centre to construct major port and ship building centre at Ramayapatnam, they would be organising the public meeting on September 19.

In this public meeting, the speakers like former minister Vadde Sobhanadriswara Rao, former MP YV Subbareddy, MP GVL Narasimha Rao and others also expected to participate.
