Thanthi Periyar remembered in Rajamahendravaram
Rajamahendravaram: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Rajamahendravaram executive director DMR Sekhar has said that a casteless society cannot be build on cracked foundation.
Participating in 140th birth anniversary celebrations of Thanthi Periyar held at ONGC base complex here on Tuesday, he said Periyar struggled to build a society with solid foundations of equality setting aside caste, creed, gender and economic status among the people.
Dr BR Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel were inspired by the ideals of Periyar and framed policies of Corporate Social Responsibility of public sector undertakings in the country.
“Education is the only remedy to bring equality among the people and it helps to question and enhance knowledge,” he added.
ONGC Officers Mahila Samithi (OOMS) president D Durga Bhavani exhorted the college students to shun watching movies and TV serials which ridicule women and surging bad thoughts among the youth.
Great social reformers such as Thanthi Periyat, Dr BR Ambedkar, Savitribai Phule inspired the people with their services, she added.
Later, DMR Sekhar presented a cheque for Rs 3,76,347 to government girls BC hostel and a cheque for Rs 3,86,845 to government boys BC hostel and also distributed 100 school bags and stationery to the school children.
All India ONGC OB and MOBC Employees Welfare Association conducted the programme.
