Bank staffer arrested for stealing 1 crore

Nellore: Cops arrested Kothapalli Pawan Kumar, who is working as Deputy Manager in the HDFC Bank, at Kavali on Wednesday, for stealing Rs 1 crore from bank’s Tada branch on Monday.

After stealing money, the accused gave Rs 10 lakh to his sister, who sincerely handed over the amount to police suspecting character of her younger brother. Police also recovered Rs 89.91 lakh from the accused along with the vehicle he was using to escape from the district.

Pawan Kumar, who hails from Kavali town, had completed MBA. He joined the Axis Bank at Kavali in 2014 and discontinued due to a quarrel with the branch manager. Further, he joined as Deputy Manager in the HDFC Bank in 2016 at Gudur and he was transferred to Tada branch after a dispute with branch manager.

Subsequently, there was also a clash with branch manager and other staff members in Tada too and he submitted his resignation on August 21 and has been waiting for further orders for relieving from the branch.

On September 16, he had stolen money from the branch asking security guard to open the office, said Guntur Range IG KVV Gopala Rao, interacting with the media on Wednesday. Senior police officer appreciated efforts of the officers and staff for apprehending the accused within two days besides recovering cash.
