Cyclone alert: IMD issues warning to coastal Andhra Pradesh

With the low pressure has turned into depression and expected to intensify into a deep depression, heavy to very heavy falls with extremely heavy falls at isolated places predicted over coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24-hours. The rainfall at many places with heavy falls at isolated places over Rayalaseema also predicted during the same period.

Squally wind speed reaching 65 to 75 KMPH along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh particularly north coastal Andhra Pradesh till September 21 morning.

According to IMD’s alerts to the state government by Thursday afternoon, the state of the sea will be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal and along and off north Andhra Pradesh coast during the next 24 hours. The IMD advised the fishermen not venture into northwest Bay of Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh coasts till September 21 evening.

Already the district authorities of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam have opened control rooms. Fire service teams of north coastal Andhra Pradesh have been high alerted. One team of NDRF deployed to Srikakulam and two teams of NDRF on standby in Visakhapatnam.

Under the influence of the depression, heavy rains being registered in the north coastal district for the past 12-hours. With this restless rain, the normal life disturbed in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam district. The agency pockets also receiving heavy rains since last midnight.

IMD’s Bulletin:

The yesterday’s low pressure formed into a depression over east central Bay of Bengal and moving west-northwestwards. The lay centered over west central and adjoining east the central Bay of Bengal about 360-km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam and about 330-km east-southeast of Gopalpur of Odisha.

It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, concentrate into a deep depression by Thursday night and expected to cross south Odisha north Andhra Pradesh coasts between Kalingapatnam and Puri of Odisha close to Gopalpur Thursday night.
