West Godavari district lagging in housing targets in Eluru
Eluru: The West Godavari district is lagging behind in meeting targets set for construction of houses under various government housing schemes.
As against monthly target of 150 houses per mandal, the housing department failed to meet even 50 per cent targets.
While 14,351 houses were constructed so far, the remaining 39,187 houses are supposed to be completed before December.
The district stood in 13thplace in meeting housing targets.
This was disclosed by the department general manager, Bhaskar Rao at a review meeting held here on Wednesday.
Bhaskar Rao warned the officials, especially work inspectors of strict action against those who failed to perform.
He said that those who neglected their targets should be ready to quit their jobs.
The GM ordered the officials to finish all houses under NTR and PMAY schemes before December.
The government was keen to meet the targets as the elections were fast approaching.
He asked the work inspectors to create awareness among the beneficiaries and encourage them to cooperate with officials in completing the houses.
Expressing dissatisfaction over work style of outsourcing staff, the GM informed that special officers had been monitoring their performance.
He directed the officials to remove outsourcing staff, if their performance was not up to the mark.
