Incessant rain hits normal life in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Incessant rain hit normal life across the district from early hours due to depression in the Bay of Bengal. Till morning, 929 mm of rainfall was recorded across the district according to joint director of planning department M Mohan Rao.

In Regidi, Rajam, G Sigadam, Narasannapeta and Srikakulam mandals, more than 33 mm rainfall was registered. According to officials, depression is likely to hit the shore near Gopalpur of Oidsha state located between Kalingapatnam of Srikakulam and Puri of Odisha state. 

District Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy alerted all the district-level to village-level officers to maintain a vigil to prevent any damage. High alert was declared on adjacent villages located either side of Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Mahendrathanaya, Bahuda rivers and sea coast villages. Fishermen were asked not to venture into the sea for fishing in the wake of depression.

Control Rooms have been set up at Srikakulam Collectorate, revenue divisions at Srikakulam, Palakonda and Tekkali to monitor the situation round-the-clock.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived in Srikakulam on Thursday to start rescue operations if required.
