Traffic Paathshala flagged off in city

Visakhapatnam: Traffic Paathshala, a road safety campaign to educate citizens on road safety was conducted by the police department and HDFC here on Monday in the city.

K Prabhakar Rao, ACP (Traffic) along with HDFC bank’s cluster heads in the city D Gopala Krishna and K Sarat Kumar flagged off a car rally of ‘Traffic Paathshala’ volunteers.

Addressing the media after flagging off the car rally, the ACP said the programme covers the city’s major road crossings such as Tadichetlapalem, Auto Nagar, and Venkogipalem and over two lakh people would be benefitted under the programme.

Under the initiative, a group of volunteers would be stationed at the city’s busy traffic junctions including markets, residential localities, schools, and colleges by holding placards to encourage people to follow road safety rules.

The programme covers some of the important road safety rules like wearing helmets/seatbelts while driving, adhering to signals and lane discipline, not using mobile phone while driving and avoiding drink and drive.

While the volunteers will reward the motorists found observing traffic discipline with a token of appreciation, the others found violating will be enrolled in the ‘Traffic Paathshala’ and will be informed about the Do’s and Don’ts of road safety from September 24 to 26.

Speaking about this initiative, D Gopala Krishna, Cluster Head,Vishakhapatnam, HDFC Bank, said, “We are excited to partner with Vishakhapatnam police in this initiative. At HDFC Bank, we believe in giving back to the communities we operate in.

With ‘Traffic Paathshala,’ we aim to educate public in the city on the Do’s and Don’ts of road safety. We believe that this is the need of the hour in a city that is witnessing an increasing number of accidents and casualties.”
