Eluru : All the 15,000 unorganised workers who applied for life insurance online under Denduluru Assembly constituency during the last one-and-a-half year will get their identity cards within a week.

This was disclosed by Ramarao, Joint Commissioner of Labour Department here on Monday.

Local MLA and Government Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar Rao raised the issue at Meekosam weekly grievance cell organised by In-charge Collector M Venugopal Reddy.

The MLA complained that those unorganised workers who applied online for insurance were neither getting any identity card nor claim benefits in case of deceased.

Expressing his displeasure over the delay in issuing benefits, the MLA grilled the labour department Joint Commissioner in the presence of the In-charge Collector.

Prabhakar Rao said that a few of applicants’ kin asked him about non-receipt of benefits mentioned under Chandranna Bhima or any other Central government scheme.

The Central government had urged all the workers in unorganised sectors to register their names online to get insurance cover after completing 90 days of work.

However, the district authorities had failed to address the problem all these days, the MLA complained.

Going by the serious nature of the complaint by MLA, the In-charge Collector asked the heads of the labour department and DWAMA to coordinate and deliver justice to the beneficiaries.

Reacting to the directive of the In-charge Collector, the labour department Joint Commissioner assured to complete the process of issue of identity cards in one week.
