Jobless Physical Education Teachers demand filling up of all vacancies

Guntur: Police arrested 40 unemployed Physical Education Teachers (PET) when they climbed the water tank at B R Stadium here on Monday. They threatened to commit suicide to mount pressure on the government to increase PET posts and to take steps to fill all the vacant PET posts immediately. They said that the Finance Department did not give clearance to fill all the vacant PET posts citing financial crisis.

Members of Nirudyoga Ikya Vedika and DYFI (Democratic Youth Federation of India) jointly took part in the protest. They demanded the government to give nod to fill all the vacant PET posts through the DSC exam and questioned the government when  there are no vacancies, what is use of conducting DSC exam. The police officials who rushed to spot asked the agitating candidates to come down. But the agitators spent about three hours on the water tank. 

Addressing the students MLA Md.Mustafa said that there is need to fill all the vacant posts to provide employment to the unemployed youth and urged the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to fill the posts and keep up its election promise.  Later, the police arrested the unemployed PETs and shifted them to the Nallapadu Police Station. 

Earlier unemployed youth staged dharna at collectorate demanding to fill all the vacant posts in the government to solve unemployment problem.
Addressing the protestors, Nirudyoga Ikya Vedika convener K V Subrahmanyam said that at present 1.42-lakh jobs are vacant in various government departments in the state and demanded to fill the posts including Group-2. Group-3, DSC, S.I and constable posts. 

He reminded that the government announced that it will fill 20,000 posts. He said that it is not correct to fill 20,000 posts and urged the government to fill at least 70% of vacancies and issue notifications to fill the posts.   Unemployed youth from various district were present.
