Kondapalli Koteswaramma remembered in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The women cell of Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala in association with Taruni Tarangalu organised a meeting in remembrance of Kondapalli Koteswaramma on the college premises here on Monday. Koteswaramma’s grand-daughter Dr Kavuri Sudha, general secretary of Human Rights Forum, National Law University, Visakhapatnam was the guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sudha said that Koteswaramma was born at Pamarru and was attracted towards National freedom movement at an early age and took part in freedom struggle and always encouraged women to be educated and was against child marriages and supported widow marriages. She always said that men and women were equal and motivated many women through various programmes and was against myths and used to educate people though plays, said Sudha.
Taruni Tarangalu vice-president Swarupa Rani said that Koteswaramma fought for the development of society. The college director Dr T Vijayalakshmi said that Koteswaramma penned many books and at the age of 92 she penned her own autobiography ‘Nirjana Varadhi’. Principal Dr Nalini, women cell convener Dr Kalpana, Taruni Tarangalu members Nagalla Vidhya Bhanu, women cell members and others were present.
