Vijayawada:  National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) General Secretary Annie Raja said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NDA government failed to fulfill the pre-poll promises during the last four-and-half years of NDA rule and underlined the need to defeat the BJP in the next general elections.

She described the Modi government as pro-rich and anti-poor. She pointed out that one per cent elite were enjoying most of the nation’s wealth in the country while 99 per cent people in the country gained nothing under the NDA rule. She participated in a Meet-the Press programme organised at the Press Club here on Monday. She said the slogan given by Narendra Modi ‘Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas’ was not visible in the country.

She said the Centre had failed to check the soaring prices of essential commodities and expressed concern over the rising prices of petrol and diesel. She said the BJP government failed to reduce the petrol and diesel prices when the prices were falling in the international market.

She expressed concern over the increasing attacks on journalists, minorities and Dalits in the country. She alleged that the BJP was influencing the media and has been sacking the journalists from the profession if they opposed the misrule of the BJP.

She said the attacks on Dalits and minorities were increasing in the country on the pretext of Gau Rakshaks and demanded that the government take measures to prevent such attacks.
She said that there was a threat to the democracy in the country under the Modi rule and felt there is a need to defeat the Modi government in the next elections. Press Club president Nimmaraju Chalapati presided over the meet. Later, a memento was presented to Annie Raja.
