Swachhata Hi Seva concludes

Visakhapatnam: Swachhata Hi Seva observed by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust from September 15 was concluded here on Tuesday. During the fortnight programme, the VPT conducted various programmes in the port area.

Addressing at the valedictory programme, VPT Chairman M T Krishna Babu stated that Mahatma Gandhi had ambitions in his mind before Independence, to achieve Swachh Bharat.  He stated that the people are now becoming broad-minded and coming out of the cocoon and awareness is created in all spheres of life especially in keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.

The VPT has taken up various activities to keep the port area clean and green by planting trees, maintaining roads, truck tyre cleaning, construction of highrise walls, deploying fog machines, the sprinkling of water to suppress dust pollution and installation of solar power plant for using renewable energy.

With this measures the Shipping Minister and the Chief Minister have commended the steps taken and awarded prizes as a second cleanest port in all major ports for two consecutive years and AP Greentech Award in Industrial category, the Chairman said.

As an encouragement to school children and residents of port colonies, the VPT conducted various competitions including essay writing, draing and elocution and cleanliness competitions among the Port colony residents and gave away prizes to winners in the Valedictory Function of Swachhata Pakwada-2018.
