5 infants die on a single day

Anantapur: As many as five infants died in the Government General Hospital here on Wednesday. According to the hospital sources, three newborns have died in the labour ward upon conception, one died in children's ward, and another in Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward.

While a mother from Peddavadugur mandal held the hospital responsible for her infant’s death by blaming it for the poor treatment in the labour ward. But, the relatives of other babies attributed no blame on the hospital.

A 11-month-old baby boy died of pneumonia on Wednesday while being treated. The baby, who is from Garladinne mandal, was admitted in the children's ward on September 25. The baby's mother, shocked at her infant's death, has attempted suicide.

But, the security personnel stopped her from taking the extreme step. A baby boy of Nagma, who is from Settur, has died in the same ward in few minutes after delivery. Reacting to the deaths, Hospital Superintendent Dr Jagannatham said that he will enquire into the cause of the deaths.
