BJP suppressing women’s rights: Brinda Karat

Update: 2018-10-04 05:30 IST

Rajamahendravaram: AIDWA (All India Democratic Women’s Association) national vice-president Brinda Karat has alleged that BJP government, in association with Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), is trying to keep away people of Muslim community from the mainstream of the country in the guise of Rama Mandiram issue.

Addressing the gathering at AIDWA's state level 14th meeting at  Subramanya Mydanam here on Wednesday, she said both BJP and RSS, in the name of religion, are mounting pressure on some constitutional bodies.

They are planning to implement Manu Dharma Sastra on the people to increase inequality among men and women and also treat women as second-class citizens. AIDWA oppose Manu Dharma Sastra and believes in Indian Constitution only.

Democracy in the country is in danger because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah who are trying to supress women and their rights, Brinda Karat blamed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to make RSS pracharaks as MPs and ignoring women reservation bill which has been pending since many years, she stated.

Last year as many as 3.20 lakh cases relating to women harassment, rapes and sexual abuse were registered in the country and at about 40,000 rape cases registered in the last four years.

The conviction rate is very less in these cases, as many ruling party leaders are supporting the accused and the courts are delaying the cases for years together, and finally there is no guarantee that the accused get punishment.

Prime Minister Narenda Modi is the running by looting the pockets of the people in various ways. The Prime Minister is  confined only to slogans relating to various welfare schemes, she said.

Lambasting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Brinda Karat  alleged that his fight against Narendra Modi is fake and it is nothing but to cheat the people.

Chief Minister has been implementing various schemes in a similar way to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre. Narendra Modi cheated tribal people by grabbing their rights, where as Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu deceived the evacuees of Polavaram Project by not giving any compensation to them.

While Prime Minister used police force, water guns and lathis against farmers in New Delhi, in AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu used police force on farmers who demanded to give their lands given to KSEZ in Kakinada, the CPM leader said.

While, the central government is privatising Anganwadi centres, the state government is also privatising mid-day meals scheme, she averred. The two governments are implementing anti people policies.  Because of this, the TDP and BJP governments should be defeated in the forthcoming elections.

CPM MLA Sunnam Rajaiah, AIDWA national general secretary Mariyam, state president B Prabhavathi, general secretary Ramadevi, district president T Tulasi, Swarup Rani, Punyavathi and others were present at the conference.
