Employees oppose merger of public sector banks in Ongole

Ongole: The bank employees of various unions staged a protest in front of the Andhra Bank main branch in Nellore Bus Stand area in Ongole, following the call by United Forum of Bank Unions against the proposed merger of public sector banks.

The forum leaders said that they were opposing the announcement of finance minister to merge the Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank. 
They said that the State Bank of India went into losses after the merger of other state banks into it and announced the merger of banks will not benefit the public or the government either. 

They said that with the merger of banks, the poor and middle class public will become distant to the public sector banks and may approach private banks. 

They demanded that the government withdraw its proposal to merge banks. 
If not, they were ready to join indefinite strike also. They also demanded that the government implement the wage revision that was pending for a long time.

The forum leaders D Venu, M Narendra Babu, Rajesh Khanna, Rajiv, Vijay Mohan, Narendra, Sobhan Babu, B Venkateswarlu and others also participated in the protest.
