3 Delhi residents held for cheating
Nellore: The Central Crime Station (CCS) cops arrested three persons for cheating the people on the pretext of exchanging foreign currency and recovered Rs 50,000 cash from them. The accused were identified as Mohammad Jabbar, Sirajul, and Ridaam Khan from Delhi. Addressing the media at CCS station here on Thursday, DSP M Balasundar Rao said that Sirajul, Jabbar and Ridaam are residents of old city in Delhi.
The three accused have been wandering in the surroundings of Nellore city and were cheating the people by offering dollars in exchange of the Indian currency. He said that the accused had approached Sheik Hyder Ali of Ranganayakula Pet on October 10 and offered American dollars for Rs 50,000 Indian currency. They have cheated Hyder Ali by giving him soaps instead of currency wrapped in a paper.
Hyder Ali lodged a complaint with Kovur Police. Modus operandi of the accused was to approach a person and offer huge amount of dollars in exchange of Indian currency.
During transaction, they alert the victim that police are coming and handover a packet saying it has bundle of dollar notes. In fact, they pack soaps and other material in it. Special teams were formed to nab the accused, he added. Finally, the accused were caught at Kovur on Thursday. CCS Circle Inspector Sheik Bobbyjan Saida and Kovur Sub-Inspector Sheik Sharif were also present.
