Centre for Disaster Management coming up at Andhra University
Visakhapatnam: The Central government is planning to establish a ‘Centre for Disaster Management’ at Andhra University to serve nation. Already the Andhra University is offering a diploma course in Disaster Management for armed forces at the department of Meteorology and Oceanography.
To discuss the setting up of Centre for Disaster Management, a Senior Professor of National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi, and Nodal Officer at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for disaster management core team Chandan Ghosh along with a delegation visited the Andhra University on Friday.
Chandan Ghosh and the delegation held discussions with the Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Prof G Nageswara Rao and other professors. The delegation expressed its satisfaction about the diploma course on disaster management being offered by the university to the armed forces.
The team suggested the university management to conduct similar courses for civilian personnel also to cater to the requirements and vision of Government of India to spread the kind of training all over India. Prof Chandan Ghosh said the government was ready to establish Centre for Disaster Management at Andhra University.
VC Nageswara Rao informed to the delegation that he would attend to meeting with Minister for Home Affairs and the Executive Director of National Institute of Disaster Management to execute the process and expedite to set up the Centre for Disaster Management at Andhra University.
