Cricket betting gang arrested in Vijayawada
13 lakh in cash, 58 mobile phones seized
Vijayawada: City Task Force police arrested 22 persons and seized cash worth Rs 13 lakh, 58 mobile phones, 3 laptops, one i-20 car and three bikes in connection with the cricket match betting took place in Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram, Hyderabad and Guntur.
The king pin of the cricket betting racket is Sappa Ravi Chandra Mouli of Rajamahendravaram.
The 22 accused spread the network in Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Guntur and other parts of the State and exploiting the youth.
The Task Force police arrested the main accused Sappa Ravi Chandra Mouli and 21 others.
The gang is involved in betting during the recently concluded Asia cup cricket matches held in Dubai and Vijay Hazare domestic tournament held between Tamil Nadu and Assam.
Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao told reporters here on Saturday that the Task Force police on a tip off initially conducted a raid on a residence in Ibrahimpatnam and nabbed three persons - Burra Satyanarayana,Vasa Kondala Rao and Adapa Venkata Rao.
Burra Satyanarayana organised betting in a rented house near Rytu bazaar in Ibrahimpatnam.
With the information furnished by Satyanarayana, the Task Force police conducted raids in Rajamahendravaram and arrested the kingpin, Sappa Ravi Chandra Mouli.
He spread the network of betting and earning money. The police later conducted raids in Guntur and other parts of Vijayawada city.
Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said 22 persons were arrested and cash worth Rs 13 lakh seized in connection with betting.
The cash was seized in four different places. He said the police seized three laptops, 58 mobile phones, one LED television, one i-20 car from the possession of the accused.
He appealed to the youth to be careful with the betting gangs.
He said the betting gangs are targeting the youth and robbing them. The gang was produced in the court.
Dwaraka Tirumala Rao congratulated the Task Force team and Ibrahimpatnam police for successfully bursting the gang and arresting the members.
