APCLA, AILU assure legal support to SEZ farmers in Kakinada

Kakinada: The Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Association (APCLA) and All India Lawyers Union (AILU) assured to extend all the needed legal support to SEZ farmers.

At the awareness meet organised at East Godavari Revenue Services Association hall here on Saturday, several legal experts assured to extend support to farmers who were implicated in false cases and acquiring lands forcefully from them. 

AILU East Godavari unit secretary Medapati Dharma Reddy presided over the meet.

Addressing the awareness meet, AP Bar Council member and APCLA state unit president Muppalla Subba Rao said that it was illegal on part of the police to arrest the agitating farmers besides foisting cases on them.  

Elaborating on the issue, the APCLA president said that the police should produce any arrested person in court within 24 hours. 

In addition to this, the police should inform relatives of the person whom they were arresting and the reasons for the arrest.  

Muppalla on this occasion, made it clear that the police had no right to arrest a person without serving notice.

APCLA state secretary P Suresh Kumar said that as per the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, only government agencies should acquire lands.

AP Bar Council member N Ravi Krishna, High Court advocate B Sasi Bhushan and others participated.
