Roundtable demands reopening of SV Cooperative Sugar Factory

Tirupati: Speakers at a round table conference held here on Sunday demanded the government to take steps for reopening of SV Cooperative Sugar Factory at Gajulamandyam. 

The meet was organised by the Action Committee formed by a group of concerned including former employees of the sugar factory, leaders of farmers’ associations and the employees working in the sugar factory which stopped functioning since three years.

Jayaramaiah, who retired as managing director of the sugar factory, on behalf of the former employees  and officials, declared that they are ready to extend free service to revive the factory and make it viable in the interests of 15,000 shareholder farmers and the employees working in the factory.

Farmer’s leader Mangati Gopal Reddy said the action committee would prepare a plan to submit to Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy who hails from Chittoor district to press the government for the reopening of the sugar factory. With the two cooperative sugar factories in the district remained closed, the private sugar mills are exploiting farmers, he said.

Sugar Factory Employees Association leader Obul Reddy, farmers leader Nageswar Raju, Lok Satta state secretary K Balasuramanayam and others, who spoke, appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to look into the two cooperative sugars factory issues and see that they were reopened for the interests of farmers and employees in the district.
