Cops don role of Bhavani Seva Dal workers

Vijayawada: The initiative taken by City Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao in constituting Bhavani Seva Dal (BSD) to help the senior citizens and physically challenged at Goddess Kanaka Durga Temple on the occasion of Dasara Navaratri celebrations, evoked good response.  

As many as 60 woman police constables and about 90 police constables were rendering service at a few main locations in the temple surroundings to help the senior citizens and physically challenged take for darshan of the goddess.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) B Raja Kumari said BSD was helping the needy and had helped more than 500 aged and physically handicapped devotees, who came to the temple for darshan everyday and were also providing drinking water and milk to the children and pregnant women in the queue lines.

She said that BSD services were part of the friendly-policing and serving Goddess Kanaka Durga devotees, was a great opportunity to the police department. 

The police officials were also very happy to help the aged and the physically handicapped persons during the festive season at the temple. 

The police department will continue Bhavani Seva Dal services during Dasara festival atop Indrakeeladri to help the needy every year, she added.

One of the BSD members Satya Durga said that BSD brought the aged and the physically handicapped devotees atop Indrakeeladri for Darshan with the support of lifts, wheelchairs and battery cars and were treating the devotees as their family members. She expressed her happiness to serve the challenged devotees.

One of the devotees Ashok Kumar from Tenali said that BDS members helped his aged parents to have Darshan of Goddess Kankaka Durga during the busy Dasara festival celebrations and thanked the police department.
