Tertiary Care Cancer Centre at ACSR Medical College to be reality soon
Nellore: The long-awaited Tertiary Care Cancer Centre (TCCC) is going to be a reality soon as the district administration asked the officials to prepare a proposal for the Centre to be set up at ACSR Medical College here. District Collector Mutyala Raju reviewed with the officials on Tuesday.
Local medical experts have been demanding for some time for setting up the proposed TCCC in ACSR Government Medical College premises as number of cancer cases increasing alarmingly in the district due to various reasons.
Cancer Hospital Sadhana Samithi has been formed for fighting against delay. It may be recalled that the city is having cancer hospital being run by the Indian Red Cross Society and still the Central government had allocated the TCCC with an estimated budget of Rs 45 crore with active persuasion of the former Union Minister and the present Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu. Activists started protests as some rumours were doing rounds on possible shifting of the TCCC to Vizag city.
A team of officials from the Union Government have inspected the land at Government Medical College in June 2016 and there has been no progress in the issue. Experts in medical sciences say the new Centre would be handy to the medical students and also allied departments would give scope for many other specialties besides chances for increasing undergraduate and post-graduate courses. “We welcome the move of the district administration as the patients will get the most advanced treatment,” said Dr H Dattatreya, convener of the Sadhana Samithi.
