Eluru: About 1,000 persons who donated blood during police commemoration week were given certificate at the police commemoration day function held here on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police M Raviprakash welcomed guests including MP M Venkateswara Rao, MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Collector K Bhaskar and Joint Collector Amarnath Reddy.

The speakers appreciated state police for availing modern technology to improve their functioning.

The state police were ahead of other states in dealing with professional challenges. They paid tributes to 414 police martyrs who sacrificed their lives while discharging duty all over the country.

They reminded that the commemoration day was observed to pay tributes to 10 CRPF jawans who attained martyrdom while discharging their duties at Ladakh, atop the Himalayas when neighbouring China attacked them on October 21, 1959.

The prize winners in essay-writing, painting and cartoon competitions organised under all the police stations’ limits in the district during police commemoration week were given away prizes on the occasion.
