Grand Master Lalith Babu welcomed in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Grand Master and winner of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation International Chess Open Championship 2018 MR Lalith Babu was welcomed in a grand way by the Chess Association of Andhra Pradesh secretary Subramanyam, Krishna District Chess Association secretary Srihari along with family members, friends and fans at the Gannavaram Airport on Wednesday. 

Lalit Babu won the Grand Master title at the 2018 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation International Chess Open Championship held from October 15 to 22 at Beijing, China.

Speaking to the Hans India, Lalith Babu shared his experience about the championship. He said that about 56 players from twenty countries from across the world participated in the event. 

A number of Chinese players participated in the tournament. It was a very tough competition to face the Chinese players as the top players are not exposed to have assess their game.  

He said that one would improve their playing skills playing against the Chinese players. He said earlier he has faced Chinese layers in his previous championships. 

He said that he thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and won seven out of nine rounds of 10 games to clinch the Grand Master title.

He said that he will be preparing for the upcoming National Chess Championship which is scheduled to be held at Jammu stating from December 8 to 18 which was very important. 

The national championship was very important which would make him eligible to participate in the World Chess Championship to be held at Russia next year. 

He said that the national championship at Jammu will be tough as the young trained competitors from South India and a few from North India would participate.

A different game plan should be adopted for the National title, said Lalith.
