APTransco receives Golden Peacock award
Vijayawada: APTransco, which stood out at national level in reducing transmission and distribution (T&D) losses to single digit, on Thursday bagged the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Award for Sustainability- 2018’ for best performance in financial management and reduction of transmission and distribution (T&D) losses.
The award was received by Dinesh Paruchuri, JMD of APTransco, on behalf of K Vijayanand, CMD of the corporation during the India’s 18th annual “London Global convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability’ held on Thursday in London (UK).
Reacting to the selection of APTransco for the award, Dinesh Paruchuri said the achievements of reducing T&D losses to a single digit and supply of 24x7 quality power at affordable rates had become possible only because of unstinted support of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He explained that the APTransco uses high energy efficient transformers and high rated lines due to which the auxiliary energy consumption has reduced to the lowest in the country and especially transmission losses reduced to lowest of just 2.83 per cent only.
While thanking the Chief Minister, in a communication, principal secretary for IT, CMD of APTransco and MD of APGenco K Vijayanand said the APTransco has saved about Rs 1,000 crore due to reduction of T&D losses.
“We had 14 per cent of T&D losses in 2014 and it was brought down to to 9.72 per cent by 2018. For the first time, the state has achieved power surplus by overcoming the crisis of 22.5 Million Units power deficit during 2014-15 and able to meet 9,000 MW peak demand.
The next objective is to bring down Transmission and Distribution losses to 4-5 percent on par with advanced countries as per directions of the Chief Minister,” he said.
