Update: 2018-10-25 05:30 IST

Tirupati: District Collector PS Pradyumna has vowed to make the district without any nutrition deficiency by December 31, 2018, three months ahead of the state target of March 31, 2019.

Addressing the Anganwadi teachers, who have successfully completed Yashoda diploma course, on the occasion of distributing certificates to them, the Collector said that the basic concept of implementing ‘Yashoda’ programme was to train Anganwadi teachers and make them work more systematically.

He added that the Chief Minister has came up with an idea of providing training to Anganwadi workers, who have been discharging their duties without any proper training. “We have approached Agricultural College and National Building Construction Corporation to come up with programmes to train farmers and masons,’ but it was not materialised,” he stated.

When asked Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) to visit Anganwadi centres and design a programme to train them, they came forward with a concrete plan of action, Collector said.

When his wife Shilpa Pradyumna visited a Anganwadi centre, she too came up with some ideas. He thanked SPMVV faculty for organising the diploma course so well which motivated all the participants. If a certificate adds to the skill it also brings respect which Anganwadi teachers in the district were witnessing in the villages.

After the training, they could be able to give effective guidance to pregnant women and lactating women. SPMVV V-C Prof V Durga Bhavani has said that with the cooperation of everyone, the first batch training programme was conducted successfully, and the faculty has worked hard in fulfilling the goal of the Collector.

Rector Prof V Uma stated that 65 Professors and other faculty have worked in the training programme and prepared five types of modules. Expressing her experience, Shilpa Pradyumna has revealed that by adopting one Anganwadi centre she thought of doing something for the benefit of the children at that centre which she had implemented in an organised way.

MP Dr N Siva Prasad, MLA M Suguna, TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav, MLC Pothula Suneetha and ICDS PD Usha Phanikar also spoke. SPMVV faculty, Anganwadi teachers and others participated.
