Update: 2018-10-25 05:30 IST

Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the developments in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday. Referring to the issue on various occasions during the day, Naidu alleged that Centre abruptly removed Alok Verma from the post of CBI director fearing facts behind the Rafale scam would come out.

Questioning on what grounds and under which Act the CBI director was removed, Naidu said that this move exposed the direct link between the scam and the Central government. He said that Narendra Modi was directly involved in the scam, and that is why he was resorting to such anti-democratic activities.

He also demanded that Modi must take the responsibility for these developments and must answer to the nation. He said that due to the fear of revealing the scam behind Rafale deal by the Alok Verma, the central government abruptly removed him from that post.

He questioned that on what grounds and under which act they removed the CBI Director? Chandrababu Naidu said that this act exposed that there was direct link between the scam and the central government, he blamed.

He said that Narendra Modi was directly involved in the scam, hence he resorted to such anti democratic activities. Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the Narendra Modi must take responsibility for this development and must answer to the Nation.

In a blistering attack on the Prime Minister, he said that Modi misused the CBI for his vested and political interests.  “The CBI, which was supposed to ensure accountability and prevent corruption in governance, itself is involved in corrupt practices. This is a pathetic situation in our country,” he said in a release on Wednesday.

Stating that the NDA government had been weakening all the Central institutions, he accused Modi of trying to intimidate those who question his autocratic and undemocratic deeds.

The Chief Minister further observed that unilateral removal of CBI director by the Prime Minister on midnight of Tuesday-Wednesday, explains the attitude of Narendra Modi. He said that it seems Modi was not allowing any independent agency to discharge its duties.

A committee in which Chief Justice of Supreme Court is a member, has to decide the appointment and removal of CBI director, but Narendra Modi removed Alok Verma unilaterally, Naidu observed. That too, Prime Minister took this decision midnight, he added.

After going through this development, it could be understood that the NDA government would not allow survival any organisation or political party or any individuals in the country who question the credibility and integrity of the Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said.

The removal of CBI Director was against to the Judgment of Supreme Court and Constitutionally invalid, the Chief Minister said. It will be serious threat to the Democracy, he worried.
