YSRCP condemns attack, DGP’s remarks

Update: 2018-10-26 03:55 IST

Strongly condemning the attack on Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and objecting to the Andhra Pradesh DGP comments on the incident, YSR Congress has said that the investigation would not be fair and free with the top cop going to the press with premeditated and preconceived notions even as the state government was trying to shift the blame of lax in security on CISF.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday party PAC member and spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said, ‘ the state DGP while giving the details mentioning that the incident looks like an incident of publicity mongering is beyond his brief and the highest office he is holding and any investigation under such a person would not bring out the intended results. The state ministers on the other hand, along with the friendly media, stating that the state police have no role to play as the airport is under the purview of CISF, a central government organisation, is ridiculous. When our party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was to attend a protest march the state police had access even to the runway to take him into custody and send him back in return flight but now they have changed the rules.’

TDP ministers and a section of media have been trying to float different versions stating that the person who carried out the assault was in fact a fan of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and all this was done to get publicity.

‘This is utter stupidity as anyone who assaults our leader, whether a fan or not should be booked and investigation should be carried out in the fixed format and there was no need for the DGP to mention the caste of the assaulter. If we go into the details, the assaulter who was identified a J Srinivasulu, happens to work in a restaurant at the airport owned by a prominent TDP leader who is seeking a ticket from Gajuwaka constituency,’ he said.

We take objection to the DGP making political remarks and making statements even before beginning the investigation, a trend started by TDP leadership who gives direction with his statements ahead of any inquiry as seen on earlier occasions.

When there was an attack on Chandrababu Naidu at Alipiri while he was Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy, then Leader of Opposition had condemned the attack while Chandrababu Naidu’s silence now and his ministers’ tantrums on speculative material only show their motive.

We believe that it was a providential escape on part of our leader and it was the blessings of the people and God that had saved his life. Our leader is always with the people and it is the responsibility of the Government to protect the Leader of Opposition, he said.
