Former MLA, Communist leader Vanka Satyanarayana passes away

Tanuku: 95-year-old Vanka Satyanarayana, CPI leader of yesteryear, died after a brief illness here on Thursday.

Born into a family of farmers of Military Madhavaram of Tadepalligudem mandal, the parents of Satyanarayana shifted to Pekeru village of Iragavaram mandal. 

He participated in the freedom struggle during his student days and went to jail several times.

He was returned from Penugonda Assembly constituency three times as CPI candidate. He was instrumental in establishing various industries, Agriculture Polytechnic college at Marteru, degree colleges at Attili and Penugonda.

He received Tamra Patra as a freedom fighter from the Centre and President Ramnath Kovind felicitated him during the Quit India celebrations at Delhi in August last.

He used to be very active during Assembly deliberations and instrumental in passing several bills.

He is survived by three sons Dr Vanka Ramadasu, Ravindranath and Mohan Rao and two daughters Aruna and Lakshmi.
