Police get custody of Srinivas till Nov 2
Visakhapatnam: The city police and Special Investigation Team(SIT) officials took Janipalli Srinivasa Rao, the accused in attack on YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, into police custody from judicial remand here on Sunday. The 29-year-old Srinivasa Rao was taken from the central prison here for interrogation after the court allowed remanded him in police custody till November 2.
Srinivasa Rao, of Tandepalli village of Mummidivarm mandal of East Godavari, will be interrogation for a period of one week by police to elicit more information on the attack.
According sources in the police department, Srinivasa Rao was closely following Jaganmohan Reddy and he was well aware of details of his flight timing every Thursday in Vizag Airport to go Hyderabad. He planned to attack Jagan in the past also. However, he didn’t get the chance to meet Jagan at the airport. Srinivas waited for the opportunity and attacked Jagan with the knife which is used for tying to roosters during the cock-fights.
SIT officer ACP (Madhurawada) B V Nageswara Rao interrogated the family members and friends of the accused. The police said that the accused had a habit of changing mobile phones but not the SIMs.
The SIT also interrogated the accused to get more information from him to find if there was any motive behind changing the mobile phones and making more than 10,000 phones calls in the past one year and with whom he spoke on phone.
The handwriting in the letter that was found in the pocket of the accused was different in some pages and has to be verified why he took the help of his cousin Vijayalakshmi and colleague Revathipathi to write some pages of the letter, said police officials.
In the 11th page of the letter, which the accused had drafted with the help of two of his friends, it was mentioned that he might be killed by the gunmen of Jagan after or during the attack, and in such case, his letter be made public through the media.
Apart from the call data, police are also examining the bank account details of the accused as there were rumours that Srinivasa Rao had spent huge amount on various occasions.
