Eluru: Farmers from Tetali village of Tanuku mandal in West Godavari district staged a dharna in front of Collectorate here on Monday, protesting against land acquisition from poor farmers to build autonagar.

A group of farmers led by CPM, Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham and AP Rytu Sangham alleged that the government was snatching lands from the poor farmers for proposed autonagar. The administration served a notice for land acquisition in August.

A land measuring 10 acres 70 cents was being acquired from 24 farmers. All the farmers have no other activity to lead a decent life.

Their families will suffer as the administration was snatching the lands without providing other land towards compensation, the agitators alleged.

The protesters said that if the authorities were very particular about the autonagar, they can acquire land from farmers who have more land.

CPM leader Pratap, Karmika Sangham leader Satyanarayana, Rytu Sangham leader K Srinivas addressed the gathering on the occasion.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to Collector Bhaskar.
