Unity Run to mark Patel Jayanti organised in Ongole

Ongole: The Prakasam district administration organised Unity Run for 2 kilometers on Wednesday morning, as part of the National Unity Day celebrations to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first home minister and commander-in-chief of armed forces in Independent India.

The district revenue officer, V Venkata Subbaiah flagged off the unity run in which nearly thousand students from various schools participated. He announced that the National Integrity Day was being celebrated on every October 31 to remember the great services of Sardar Patel. He remembered Sardar Patel as the man who contributed his life for the unity and political stabilization of the nation. 

The district education officer, VS Subbarao said that Patel had merged 556 princely states scattered post independence in India, for the national integrity. He asked the youth and students to take inspiration from Patel and his commitment and services towards the country.

Later, at the Collectorate, the DRO administered the National Unity pledge to the staff. The additional SP, G Lavanya Lakshmi administered the pledge for National Unity to the armed reserve police and staff in the District Police Office. She asked the police personnel to take inspiration from the Patel to keep the country unite and safe.

The DCRB DSP, Mariyadasu, Women PS DSP Lakshmi Narayana, DTC DSP Y Srinivasa Rao, AR DSP Raghavendra Rao and other officials also participated in the programme. The Prakasam district unit of the BJP organised Unity Run from DRRM High School with 80 feet long national flag carried by 800 students through the streets of Ongole. 

The party state general secretary Vamaraju Satyamurthy participated as the chief guest for the programme and said that Patel had united India by merging all other princely states into Union and played a key role in establishing Akhanda Bharat. The BJP district president, PV Krishna Reddy, SC Morcha leader Dara Sambaiah and other leaders also participated in the programme.
