AU inks MoU with NIDM
Visakhapatnam: The Andhra University signed a MoU with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) in New Delhi on Saturday. On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor briefed about the need for research collaborations and offering of different courses on Disaster Management in the university.
During the discussions, the both NIDM and AU managements focused on UG and PG programmes in Disaster Management, training to the faculty in the areas of Disaster Management and development of curriculum.
The UGC, Human Resources Development Centre, Andhra University can organise Disaster Management Workshop for the faculty of affiliated colleges of Andhra University.
VC Prof G Nageswara Rao, Registrar Prof K Niranjan and NIDM Executive Director B H Anil Kumar signed the MoU papers.
On the request of the VC, the Executive Director of the NIDM expressed his willingness to establish Disaster Management Centre at Andhra University.
During the meeting, it was also discussed that NIDM is prepared to face the disaster issues like cloud burst, fire related and lightning strikes.
One of the professors from NIDM, Dr Anil K. Gupta, who is an expert in climate change, opined that normally cyclones hit more places in Bangladesh and West Bengal, but in the recent times many cyclones are hitting Andhra and Odisha coasts.
