Facilities inspected in welfare hostels

Tirupati: To improve facilities and conditions in welfare hostels, District Collector PS Pradyumna initiated a programme in which officials concerned have visited 231 hostels in the district on Friday. They inspected the hostels and its surroundings and interacted with the students. 

The move was aimed at driving away all problems in the hostels and providing a pleasant atmosphere to make the inmates feel homely and concentrate more on their studies. The officers have visited SC, ST, BC, Minority welfare hostels and MPDOs, Tahsildars and municipal commissioners were involved during inspections.

District Collector himself visited the BC welfare hostel in Katherapalle of Karvetinagaram mandal. They took stock of the situation regarding the buildings in which hostels were housed, rooms of students, bathrooms, toilets, water supply, drinking water, windows, fans, whether there was sufficient lighting in rooms, playgrounds and other things.

They also inspected the attendance registers, food quality, blankets and enquired about the health condition of students. They need to submit their observations in the special proforma to the Collector, who will review them with district officials and take decisions on providing required facilities and giving star rating. 

Speaking to the media at the hostel in Katherapalle, the Collector stated that they have been resolving problems in villages as identified during ‘Grama Darshini’ programme. Now, they have been contemplating with the idea of ‘star hostels’ in which welfare hostels will be provided with all facilities. If students have any problems relating to education and health they will be sorted out by next week.

The officials will visit the hostels repeatedly for four weeks and try to provide as many facilities as possible by December 9. SC Welfare Department JD Vijaya Kumar, ATMA Chairman Nageswara Raju and other officials were present.
