Sports meet for medicos begin in Nellore
Nellore: Narayana Dental College and Hospital is hosting 22nd Inter-collegiate sports meet 2018-19 in association with Dr NTR University of Health Sciences and the events started on Saturday.
Around 1,200 students from 38 medical and dental colleges across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states are taking part in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajay Reginald, Principal, Narayana Dental College and Hospital, expressed that the Inter-collegiate sports meet is an opportunity to conduct different sports at one campus for medical and dental students.
The Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Dr C V Rao appreciated the college for organising the event. He said students from 38 medical and dental colleges are competing in volleyball, basketball, tennis, chess and shuttle badminton from November 10 to 13.
He also said that games and sports will strengthen team work and develop leadership qualities. Dr Kona Vamsi Krishna, an IPS officer, who was former student of the Dental College, said that he had participated in many events while he was studying and won national-level competitions.
Managing Director of Narayana Medical Institutions Dr P Sindhura said Narayana Medical Institutions are organising similar sports events not only for medical fraternity but also for the non-medical staff, who are working in the group.
She also said that Narayana Medical Group has taken an initiative to encourage sports making everybody to participate in such events.
Dr Veeranagi Reddy, Principal, Narayana Medical College; Dr Sarvepalli Vijay Kumar, Coordinator and CEO Dr S Satish Kumar and others were present.
