65 paddy procurement centres to be opened in vijayawada

Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham said on Monday the district administration set the target of opening 265 paddy procurement centres in the district to procure paddy from the farmers this Kharif season.

He spoke to the officials of agriculture, revenue, Panchayat Raj and others at the camp office and reviewed the progress of paddy procurement. 

Speaking on the occasion, Lakshmikantam said the Government was offering support price of Rs 1,750 for common variety for quintal and Rs 1,770 for Grade A variety. 

He said the agriculture department officials have estimated the paddy yield will be 9.48 lakh matric tonnes in the district this Kharif season. He made it clear that he will not tolerate the middlemen and brokers in the paddy procurement. 

He informed that 200 paddy procurement centres were already opened and the remaining 65 centres would be opened soon for the convenience of farmers. 
Joint Collector Vijay Krishnan and Sub-Collector Misha Singh and other officials attended the review meeting at the camp office.
