International poets visit Dhyana Buddha sculpture

Vijayawada: A good number of international poets who have come for the 4th International Multilingual Poets Meet, Amaravathi Poetic Prism 2018 organised by the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati visited the Huge Dhyanabuddha sculpture at Amaravati as part of the post-event excursion on Monday.

The poets who became emotional on seeing the tallest Buddha image spontaneously composed poems and rendered in front of the sculpture.

Dr E Sivanagireddy, CEO, CCVA, accompanied them and briefed on the salient features of the 125 feet tall Buddha image with its components.

Later the poets representing Albania, Arabia, Italy, Jordon, Mangolia and Srilanka besides from various states of our country visited the Mahachaitya at Dhanyakataka and the Archaeological museum where Dr Reddy interpreted the history of Dhanyakataka- Amaravati, Buddhism and Acharya Nagarjuna’s association with the stupa to the visitors. 

They have also visited the 4 storied rock cut caves at Undavelli and appreciated the art and architecture of the Buddhist sites. Dr Sivanagireddy presented them books on Amaravati.
