Pushpa Yagam observed with fervour
Tirumala: Gaiety and grandeur marked Pushpa Yagam, a unique floral offering ritual to Lord Venkateswara, was observed in Tirumala temple on Wednesday.
Ahead of the fete, a grand procession of hundreds of baskets of flowers of various species led by TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal was conducted at the hill top temple town as part of the Pushpa Yagam coincided with Sravana Nakshatram, the birth star of Lord Venkateswara, in the holy Karthika Masam.
Nine tonnes of flowers and fragrant leaves were used during the Pushpa Yagam, which comprised of 14 aromatic flowers of various hues and 5 scented leaves that were favourites of both Lord Venkateswara and his consorts.
The priests offered floral ‘Ahuthis’ to the processional deities of Lord Malayappa and His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi amidst chanting of mantras by band of Vedic scholars added more to the spiritual ambiance pervaded all over the shrine.
